When we recommend this product
Sola-Mate uses roof-mounted panels to capture the energy of sunlight and covert it to heat that is carried into your house as warm air and released via ducted outlets. Sola-Mate can be used as a retrofit to allow buildings with poor solar passive design to capture more of the energy in sunlight for heating.
Sola-Mate captures heat during the day when the sun is shining. Storage of that heat for release during the evening will be improved by thermal mass inside the house such as internal brick walls or floors.Sola-Mate also dries the air preventing condensation and filters the air using medical grade filters.Sola-Mate costs very little to run, less than 20c per day of electricity to run the fan.It will not provide all of the heating you will need in winter. Therefore you must have or install an efficient active gas, electric or wood heater as a supplement.
How to get the most from this product
Sola-Mate captures heat during the day when the sun is shining. A building needs to have thermal mass to store the heat and release it in the evening if that is when it is required. To prevent wasting the heat produced by any heating system always ensure your house is well insulated (ceilings, walls, underfloors), draught-proofed and that your windows insulated using curtains and pelmets.

Five star homes flunk energy test

Research by air-tightness testing company Air Barrier Technologies has shown that air leakage in new homes is five to 10 times worse than expected under the star-rating scheme.
This means that an average five-star home is likely to perform only to a three-star level, potentially doubling expected energy bills for residents.
